Final Weekend of Regular Season May 19-20
(Monday, May 14) The final weekend of the NEBA regular season is on tap May 19-20. As teams finish this portion of the NEBA schedule it looks like seedings for the NEBA tournament are taking shape as well. The 14U Division looks like a lock for the Worcester Heat, while the 13U Division pennant is now a two team race between the Ruffnecks and Team Connecticut. The final weekend will provide more clarity as we head toward Memorial Weekend, then the NEBA Tournament June 1, 2, & 3.
13U Action – May 12-13
The Ruffnecks and Lightning Baseball locked up in a good series. Three of the games could have gone either way, but the Ruffnecks managed a sweep of a solid Lightning squad. The Ruffnecks pitching came through in a strong way. Meanwhile, Team Connecticut took care of their own business with a four game sweep of the Dugout Dawgs, thus catapulting the 13U Division into a two team race between the Ruffnecks and TCB. Both squads have challenges this coming weekend. TCB plays state rival the Connecticut Bombers, while the Ruffnecks face off with the USA Mavericks. The Worcester Heat played a tough series with the Connecticut Bombers this past weekend. The Bombers won 2, the Heat 1, and one game ended in a tie. The Mavericks took 3 out 4 from ITZ Thunder. All four games were well played.
14U Action – May 12-13
The Worcester Heat showed that they can win the close games. They swept a four game series from the Connecticut Bombers, winning the first two contest handily, and then taking two one-run games from a scrappy Bomber team. The wins clinched the pennant for the Heat. The head to the NEBA Tournament as the undisputed top seed in the 14U bracket. The Ruffnecks took two out of three from Lightning Baseball. The middle of the pack in the 14U race continues to be jumbled. It shapes up to be an interesting tournament with the addition of Team Connecticut 14s and the return of many high school freshman among all rosters. The development aspect of the 14U Division has been terrific as the NEBA Spring League has evolved into a solid circuit, largely for 8th graders.
